Save Money By Replacing Your Water Heater Before April 2015

Bradford White water heater

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), as part of the National Appliance Energy Conservation Act (NAECA), issued energy-efficiency mandates for almost all residential (and some light-duty commercial) gas, electric, oil and tankless water heaters. These mandates go into effect on April 16, 2015, at which time manufacturers must comply with the new standards.

With the new regulations, heaters will most likely become larger—taller, wider and heavier—due to the increased insulation and different heater configurations. This will increase the price of the water heaters themselves, as well as the installation costs. Although we do not yet know what the increases will be, they could be significant.

Customers should consider replacing their water heater (especially if they are more than 10 years old) before the changes take place to avoid possible increases in the overall cost of replacement. Call Eller Services for more information or go to the DOE’s website for details on the new regulations.
